FROM SILENCE,
MEMORY PROLIFERATES

In From Silence, Memory Proliferates, Marion explores memory as a visceral, non-narrative, and powerful process.

Sculptural paper objects

From Silence, Memory Proliferates explores memory as a physical, non-linear process. In three amorphous wall works, Marion depicts memory as unstable and shifting—growing from silence, beyond words. Vivid color underlines the tension between emotional depth and sensory overload.

The works were presented at The FACTORY, Salzburg, Austria, 18-27 July 2025.

The three-part series of amorphous wall objects presents a counter-image to linear models of memory: rather than clearly reconstructable retrospection, memories appear here as proliferating structures: bodily, unstable, and in constant transformation.

Imagine a quiet moment when memory breaks through the silence of the mind. From this stillness, images and words begin to form and grow out of hidden gaps in the psyche. They swell, gain weight, circle in the mind, and can become overwhelming. These are not neutral recollections but emotional forces that impose themselves with intensity and persistence.

Vivid colour oscillates between sensual seduction, emotional depth, and visual overstimulation. This ambivalence reflects the experiential quality of intense memories: what is remembered is never neutral – it can press in, overwhelm, impose itself. The amorphous forms embody these processes and are visual manifestations of the preconscious and the intangible. Their impact eludes clear interpretation – they demand a sensuous, associative reception.

Central to the work is the concept of silence – not merely as the absence of sound, but as a space of the unsaid, the repressed, and the forgotten. From this silence, memory “proliferates”: tentative, formless, yet incredibly powerful.
